How to Open Melissa's Coconuts

To Open Our Sweet Young Coconut

Caution: Opening a coconut must be done by an adult on a hard surface and away from children for safety.

1.   Place your coconut on a non-skid cutting board. Using a sharp knife, carefully slice away the pointed white husk.
2.   Using the blunt edge of your knife, carefully tap the top of the coconut in a circular motion until you create a crack.
3.   Once the crack is wide enough, use the blunt edge of your knife to pry open the top of the coconut. Use a spoon to scoop out the top white flesh, revealing the water inside. Be careful not to spill it!
4.   Pour the fresh coconut water into a glass or drink it straight from the coconut using a straw.
5.   Don’t forget about the meat! Use a spoon to scoop out the soft, sweet coconut flesh from the inside for a tasty snack or ingredient for recipes.

To Open Our Quick Crack Coconuts

1.   Pierce the 3 dark-colored eyes at the top of the coconut with a sterilized or kitchen-dedicated screwdriver.
2.   Drain the liquid
3.   Carefully tap the coconut along the equator with a hammer or the blunt edge of a kitchen knife until it opens.

To Open Our Brown and White Coconuts

1.   Find the large “eye.” Take a sterilized or kitchen-dedicated screwdriver to poke a hole in the coconut—discard the water.
2.   Bake your coconut in the oven at 350F for 10 minutes to help release the flesh. Carefully remove your coconut and let it cool.
3.   Tap coconut with a hammer along the equator until it cracks open.
4.   Pry it open and find where the coconut has separated from the shell. Using a spoon, carefully pry the meat away from the shell.

To Open Our EZ Open Coconuts

1. Unclip the side.
2. Push down on top.
3. Peel off the safety seal.
