- Take the back of a cleaver or chef’s knife and start hitting the coconut all the way around the equator.
- Once you hear a change in the tapping of the coconut, it will be ready to split open.
- To remove coconut meat from the shell, wedge a spoon between the meat and shell, then gently pry it loose in sections.
To Open Our Sweet Young Coconut
Caution: Opening a coconut must be done by an adult on a hard surface and away from children for safety.
- Remove the packaging and place the coconut upright on a non-slip cutting board. Locate the ridge near the top. Starting about an inch above the ridge, use a sharp cleaver or chef’s knife to carefully shave away the white husk, working your way toward the tip, until you expose the crown.
- Using the back (blunt edge) of your knife, carefully tap around the crown in a circular motion to loosen it.
- With the coconut steady, position the heel of your knife near the top (crown). Firmly strike down to make an initial cut, creating a shallow groove. Rotate the coconut and repeat, tapping along the groove until the cap cracks open.
- Use a spoon to pry off the cap/lid until it reveals exposed flesh and water
- Pour the fresh coconut water into a glass or drink it straight from the coconut using a straw.
- Don’t forget about the meat! Use a spoon to scoop out the soft, sweet coconut flesh from the inside for a tasty snack or ingredient for recipes.
To Open Our Quick Crack Coconuts
- Pierce the 3 dark-colored eyes at the top of the coconut with a sterilized or kitchen-dedicated screwdriver.
- Drain the liquid.
- Carefully tap the coconut along the equator with a hammer or the blunt edge of a kitchen knife until it opens.
