The sweet harbingers of Hatch Pepper season have arrived. The unique microclimate of Hatch, New Mexico, produces not only flavorful Hatch peppers but also these juicy, naturally sweet onions. Enjoy them raw for crisp texture in potato, macaroni, or vegetable salads, or as toppings for sandwiches, burgers, and wraps. Their high sugar content makes them ideal for caramelizing. Sauté in butter or oil, then cook low and slow until golden. Pair with Melissa’s Gourmet Mushroom Sampler in a galette, add to grilled cheese or quesadillas with brie and dried fruit, top pizzas, or fold into mustard or dips made with Greek yogurt or cottage cheese for added protein. These grapes are naturally dried on the vine before harvest, resulting in sweet, tender raisins without the stickiness. ORGANIC POLENTA – THREE FLAVORS
If you haven’t experienced polenta, now is the time. Melissa’s Organic Polenta is USDA Certified Organic, made from non-GMO corn, and fully cooked for convenience. Slice into rounds, sticks, cubes, or planks and reheat by air frying, baking, or sautéing. It can also be reconstituted with liquid as a mashed potato alternative. EGGPLANT
For a Mediterranean twist, try grilling eggplant. Melissa’s offers globe, Italian, Chinese, and Japanese varieties. Slice and skewer for kabobs or pair with summer squash, Sweet Mini Peppers, Baby Heirloom Tomatoes, Cipolline onions, and Kale Sprouts. Select firm eggplant with smooth skin and no bruising. Store unwashed in a plastic bag for up to three days. Because eggplant absorbs oil quickly, brush just before cooking. Finish with olive oil or Melissa’s spice grinders for added flavor.

Also known as samphire, salicornia is a salty, crunchy coastal vegetable. Blanch briefly and shock in ice water to balance its natural salinity. Use as a garnish for seafood, salads, cocktails, or incorporate into dishes like tacos, soups, or potatoes. Available year-round. Product of Mexico.
