For Chefs & Produce Managers Food Service: 323-584-4940 Produce Managers: 800-468-7111
Seasonality: Year-round
Origin: Mexico
Thai Basil features arrow-shaped leaves with deep purple stems, offering a sweet and peppery flavor that’s slightly reminiscent of star anise. Despite its name, this fragrant basil variety is common not only in Thai cuisine but also in Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian, and Taiwanese cuisines as well. Compared to Sweet Basil, commonly used in Italian dishes, Thai Basil is heartier with more mint-like features, making it more stable when cooked. It’s a staple ingredient in Southeast Asian dishes like Thai green curry, drunken noodles and Vietnamese pho. Use Thai Basil to add a bold flavor and a licorice aroma to braised vegetables, stir-fries, spring rolls, fruit salad and cocktails.
Melissa’s Fresh Herbs are hand-selected for excellent quality. Use soon after purchasing. To keep fresh, refrigerate in a plastic bag filled with air and securely closed. Store in the vegetable crisper section of the refrigerator.
