Reed avocados are a unique variety known for their rich, creamy flavor and impressive size. These giants of the avocado world can weigh anywhere from a pound to a pound and a half! That's a lot of creamy goodness to share or to enjoy over multiple meals. 

Unlike pear-shaped Hass avocados, Reeds are round with smoother, less pebbled skin. Their thick, green skin doesn't darken much as they ripen. Instead, rely on the touch test – it should be slightly soft when squeezed. You might even hear the pit rattle slightly when ripe. Once ripe, store them in the refrigerator to extend their shelf life. However, thanks to the thick skin, they tend to last longer than Hass avocados at room temperature too.
