Purple Ninja radishes are a relatively new variety to the U.S., but they have quickly become popular for their vibrant color and superior flavor.
This radish boasts a tapered shape, a vibrant purple exterior and a crisp, lavender to white interior. They have a slightly sweet flavor with a hint of spice. Purple Ninja radishes are great sliced thinly in sandwiches, crudité, sushi, soups, and ceviche or added to salads and stir-fries. They can also be pickled or roasted—the greens are edible as well and are a good source of vitamin C and flavonoids.
To choose radishes at the grocery store, look for radishes that are firm and have a bright color. Avoid radishes that are soft, have brown spots, or are wilted. The greens should be fresh and green, not yellow or wilted.
To store radishes, trim the greens off and wash the radishes well. Then, place the radishes in a plastic bag or container with a lid and store them in the refrigerator. Radishes will keep for up to two weeks in the refrigerator.
