A newer hybrid melon developed in Japan. The Ivory colored melon has a pure white, thin skin with occasional green streaking; the interior fruit is also white with a moderately sweet taste. Gaya melons are somewhat sweet and have a flavor reminiscent of a juicy pear and banana mix.

Gaya Melons have a very long shelf life when stored in the home fruit crisper. Choose melons heavy for their size. A Gaya melon is ripe when there is a little give at the flower end of the fruit.
