This heirloom variety, also known as the Cincinnati Market Radish or Long Scarlet Radish, dates back to the 1800s and was beloved by market gardeners in Cincinnati for its consistent quality and high yields. It was even celebrated in seed catalogs of the era as "the most handsome long red radish in cultivation."
Cincinnati Radishes have a mildly spicy flavor and add just the right amount of zing to salads, slaws, and crudité platters. For a provincial take, try roasting or pickling them to mellow the heat and bring out their natural sweetness. Keep them fresh and crunchy by storing in the fridge, wrapped in a damp paper towel.
