Los Angeles, California (2023) – Tofu has been prepared for thousands of years in China. Basically, it is soy milk that is heated until it curdles. Those curds are scooped off the top of the soy milk as they form, then transferred to a block mold/press that slowly squeezes the liquid out as it chills. That is, until Melissa’s took the sometimes messy and always time-consuming task of pressing the water out of tofu, which can take up to twenty-four hours depending on the desired texture before it can be cooked.

Instead, Melissa’s offers a pressed block (extra firm) of organic tofu, packed dry; there is no need to press before using. Tofu consists of all eight essential amino acids, making tofu a super food. Tofu is also high in protein and uses no animal products which makes it a perfect alternative meat and plant-based option for vegetarians and vegans.
