Afourer Mandarins are an easy-to-peel mandarin variety grown in Australia, also known as Nadorcott mandarins. No matter the label, Afourer Mandarins are the same fruit, brimming with natural sugar balanced by bright acidity, so Afourer Mandarins taste rich, sweet, and tart all at once, with an intense honey mandarin flavor. Afourer Mandarins are small to medium in size, with a squat, slightly flattened shape. The smooth, taut rinds of Afourer Mandarins have prominent oil glands, ripen to a deep orange, peel easily, and are generally low in seed. Inside, the orange-red flesh is juicy, tender, and succulent, with membranes so fine they almost disappear.
Afourer Mandarins, also called Nadorcotts, are a natural offspring of the Murcott mandarin, discovered in Morocco in the 1970s and named for its breeder, Dr. El-Bachir Nadori (“Nador” from Nadori, “cott” from Murcott). The Afourer name comes from the Moroccan town where the variety first grew. Afourer Mandarins are also sold as W. Murcott Afourer, Delite mandarins in California, ClemenGold mandarins in South Africa, and Clemcott mandarins in Spain.
Enjoy Afourer Mandarins as is, or use the segments in salads, desserts, and grazing boards. Afourer Mandarins juice beautifully for marinades, vinaigrettes, and sauces. Sturdy enough to dip in chocolate, Afourer Mandarins make an indulgent chilled snack. Try them with Melissa’s Milk Chocolate Melting Wafers.
Storage: Store Afourer Mandarins at a cool room temperature for 5-7 days, or refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
