Cinco de Mayo, Mom and more!

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo has become a huge “American” celebration with festivities happening nationwide. The history of this holiday began on May 5, 1862, in Puebla, Mexico, when about 2,000 Mexican soldiers under the command of General Ignacio de Zaragoza defeated invading French forces of 6,000. During this important national holiday, parades and mock battles — using fruits as ammunition — are the highlight of the day. Dances, parties, fireworks, and patriotic foods all celebrate the victory at Puebla. Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo as if it were one of their personal triumphs, which it is not. For them, it is merely another day of fun, food and festivities.

This year Mother’s Day is May 10th. Spending the day with your mom is a very special treat for her – especially if the kids are grown and have moved out. The tradition is to take Mom out to dinner or make something very special for her at home. Cooking at home is the way to go if you don’t want to wait forever to get into her favorite restaurant. Now-a-days, there are plenty of delivery services that can help you create the perfect meal at home!

Our new Hollandaise Sauce will make an Eggs Benedict breakfast so easy! Just heat the packet for 10 seconds and top your dish… fast and delicious.

Mother’s Day is credited to Anna M. Jarvis. Most historians believe that Mother's Day was first celebrated at a church in West Virginia in 1907. It was a special service arranged by Anna M. Jarvis to honor the memory of her own mother. Seven years later, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother's Day a national holiday. Mothers everywhere are showered with gifts and cards from children (many hand-made) and may be pampered by everyone in the family.
