Dragonfruit comes from a vining cactus variety. Under the colorful rind is a succulent white or bright red fruit containing tiny edible black seeds. The fruit is similar in texture to a melon or kiwi and, depending upon variety, can range from slightly tart flavor to extremely sweet.
Melissa’s organic Dragonfruit program consists of three very distinct new varieties. White Dragons are extremely large with pleasantly mild sweet, cream-colored interior. Red Dragons are slightly smaller with a medium-high sugar content and deep burgundy fruit color. The petite Sugar Dragons have a unique magenta skin that protects its bright red fruit that is twice as sweet as the other two!
Cut in half, then use a spoon to separate the interior fruit from the skin. The skin is not edible.
Dragonfruit flavor is more intense when it is cold and best enjoyed chilled, right out of the skin. The sweet flavor and vibrant colors of these three new varieties also make each perfect for adding to salads, pastries, beverages, smoothies, sherbets, sorbets, and juices.
Organic Dragonfruit is grown with no chemical pesticides or fungicides and third party certified as being organically grown in accordance with the guidelines mandated by the USDA's Organic Foods Production Act of 2002.
