A member of the mandarin citrus family (which also includes satsumas, tangerines, clementines, tangelos and mandarin oranges), Melissa’s Honey Tangerines are distinguishable by their easy-to-peel skin and incredibly sweet, juicy flesh. A product of South America (namely, Argentina and Brazil) Honey Tangerines are also harvested in Florida and Mexico. Honey Tangerines, produced when crossing a tangerine and an orange, make an excellent juice. Although their flesh is often a rich orange color, areas of green coloring are hardly unusual and representative of warm, tropical growing conditions. The quality of the fruit itself remains unaffected. Melissa’s Honey Tangerines can be used in salads, stuffings and stir-fries. They are ideal for lunch boxes, picnics and simple desserts when served over vanilla ice cream.

This is a mandarin orange hybrid from Florida that is a cross between a tangerine and an orange. These bright orange, round shaped citrus are medium in size and quite firm having a thin, glossy-textured rind with loose skin that peels off more easily. Incredibly sweet and honey flavored, they contain very few seeds. The rich, orange-colored juice has a lovely fragrance and taste that is both refreshing and delicious. This is an ideal fruit for lunch boxes or enjoying fresh as an appetizer or dessert.

Melissa’s Honey Tangerines should be firm (with some give to the skin) and heavy for their size. Choose glossy skinned fruit with a fresh scent. Store in a plastic bag in the refrigerator or at room temperature for a week or more.

No additional preparation is required. Simply peel ripe fruit and eat.

The following prohibit the shipment of any citrus into their state: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, and Hawaii.
