Seasonality: Year Round

The aromatic Bay Leaf comes from the evergreen Bay Laurel tree. Best when used at the start of a slow-cooked meal, Melissa’s fresh and dried Bay Leaves enhance the flavor of stews, soups, stocks, marinades, meat and fish dishes. As an alternative to salt, a Bay Leaf from Melissa’s may be combined with vegetables or dressings for a sweet flavor. When poaching fish or shrimp, a Bay Leaf may be added to the water and removed before serving.

Melissa’s Fresh Herbs are hand selected for excellent quality. Choose fresh-looking Bay Leaves with good color and a clean, fresh scent. Avoid any brown spots or wilted leaves. Use soon after purchasing. To keep fresh, refrigerate in a plastic bag filled with air and securely closed. Store in the vegetable crisper section of the refrigerator. If leaves do become wilted, an ice water bath can revive them. Store away from ethylene-producing fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, bananas and peppers.

Leaves should be thoroughly washed and dried before using.
