Ingredients
-
-
1 (4 ounces) package raisins
-
4 ounces rock sugar, crushed
-
4 ounces hazelnuts, chopped
-
Special equipment: steaming tray or steamer
Directions
Peel skin off the Asian Pears and cut in half, vertically. Remove the core to make a hole in the center of each half, about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter.
Combine the raisins and the rock sugar. Fill each pear half with 1/8 of the mixture and sprinkle with the nuts.
Place pears on the heat-proof dish that will fit in the steaming tray of a rice cooker. Add about 4 cups of water to the pot and bring to a boil.
Place the steaming tray with the heat proof dish inside on top of the pot. Steam until the sugar dissolves, approximately 1 hour.
Recipe Note
Chef's tip:
If you do not have a rice cooker with a steamer tray, you may use the adjustable steamers that accommodate varying pot sizes. Be mindful of the amount of water in the steamer. Once the water boils, reduce heat to an active simmer. Do not have so much water that the pears are sitting in it, and check the water after fifteen minutes or so by measuring water level with a chopstick or butter knife slid down the side of the steamer set up.
