This variety, developed in Nicaragua, is much rounder when compared to a standard Hawaiian pineapple; it is sweet and has a more subtle, balanced flavor between acidity and sweetness.

The white interior fruit has a creamier, less fibrous texture than yellow varieties. Pineapples are a member of the bromeliad family of plants; the fruit contains bromelain enzyme, which is used commercially as a meat tenderizer, and is also believed to be good for digestion, similar to pepsin in a papaya.

Interestingly, pineapples are one of the few fruits whose sugar content does not develop after being harvested.

Selection & Storage
Soft spots and yellowing leaves are indicators of being over-ripe. The ability to pull a leaf from the crown as an indication of ripeness is a complete myth. Fruit left out at room temperature with develop more acidity. Can be refrigerated for three to five days if stored in a perforated plastic bag.

Hawaii prohibits the shipment of any pineapple into their state.
