Sweet Young Coconut, Opening

How to open a fresh coconut quickly and easily with tools that everybody owns.

  1. With a straight edge knife cut the tip of the coconut off exposing the brown shell of the coconut
  2. Once the brown shell is exposed, use the back of a large knife and strike the coconut around the exposed shell area, until it cracks
  3. Once the shell is cracked, use the knife to lift the shell off and expose the young coconut flesh
  4. Using a spoon, puncture the flesh and lift it out of the coconut, exposing the water.
