Volcano Oranges, also known as Tarocco oranges, are named for their deep pink or red-streaked flesh. Their thin skins may have a red blush, but often times do not.

Their skin is easy to peel and they have very few seeds. Smaller than an average orange with slightly rougher skin, Melissa’s Volcano Oranges are juicy and best when eaten fresh. These oranges are richly flavored with a hint of sweet berries.

Volcano Oranges are also popular for use in cooked sauces. They provide an excellent flavor on meat and fish, vegetables, rice and salads.

Hundreds of years ago, nestled along the slopes of Mount Etna (the largest volcano in Europe), Sicilian farmers began growing these wonderful, sweet fruits known as Volcano Oranges. They have a delicate texture creating a unique experience on the palette, unlike any other citrus fruit.

Volcano Oranges are excellent for making the Italian "spremuta" or freshly squeezed red orange juice. Many chefs are also using their juice in exotic cocktails such as red blush champagne mimosas.

Choose Volcano Oranges that are firm and heavy for their size. Volcano Oranges may have a slight blush or have no blush at all. Avoid blemishes and shriveled or moldy spots. For the juiciest, sweetest fruit look for Volcano Oranges with a sweet, clean fragrance. Store a cool room temperature up to one week or refrigerate up to two weeks.

The following prohibit the shipment of any citrus into their state: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, and Hawaii.
