Ingredients
- 1 Pie Crust Frozen Pre-made
Filling
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
- 8 Granny Smith Apple peeled cored and sliced (1/4 inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
Topping
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Chilled and cut into small pieces
- 1 Piloncillo (Brown Sugar Cones) crushed
- Dessert Sauce (Caramel flavor) to taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Make the Filling
In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add the apples and mix well. Set aside.
Make the Topping
In a bowl, add the flour, butter and brown sugar. Using a fork or a pastry cutter, mix until crumbly, like coarse meal.
Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and dot with the butter. Sprinkle with the topping and place in the oven. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until crust is golden brown and apples are cooked through. Let cool and serve. Place one pie wedge on a plate, drizzle with caramel sauce and add a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
Note:
Piloncillo can be crushed by placing it in a resealable plastic bag, covered with a towel and pounded with a kitchen mallet.
