Directions

Place everything in a medium saucepan. Over low-medium heat, cook to soften the cranberries and apples. Adjust tartness to taste with more orange juice and some sugar if you wish. Cook until mixture is thick. Cool well.

My middle son is allergic to nuts and frankly, I myself am not fond of the traditional Haroses of apples, cinnamon and walnuts (but I make it). This Haroses has become a classic at my seders and it doubles as a fruit relish or Jewish chutney for roast turkey which I often serve or alongside roast chicken. Like the traditional version, this delectable haroses is the symbolic mortar used to sandwich pieces of matzoh together. I usually use apples, cranberries, raisins and cinnamon. No nuts, but you can! I also vary the fruit (both fresh and dried) depending on what's available. This haroses is bright, sweet and tart and wholly delectable. No one even bothers with the rest of the meal once they partake in this ambrosial mix.
