Regina Campbell
TV Host, Cookbook Author, Spokesperson
An all-natural, holistic approach to health enabled Regina Campbell to triumph over illness and lead a successful life as a media spokesperson for creative meatless cuisine. Her beginnings in media were in the 70's when she became the first woman to co-host a network sports telecast, with Bryant Gumbel on NBC. Following several years as a news anchor in the mid-'80's, she pursued independent production work with a focus on environmental issues, winning numerous national honors for "Sierra in Peril", a feature length PBS documentary.
Regina Campbell became a vegetarian in 1985, and in 1992 she began writing a vegetarian cooking column for Sacramento, California's major daily newspaper. Her background in television production then led to the first in an ongoing series of "Regina's Vegetarian Table", which is going into its 6th season. Airing on more than 250 PBS stations across the country, Regina's Vegetarian Table dispels the myth that vegetarian cooking is complicated and uninteresting. By presenting the best fresh ingredients, with quality convenience productions, Campbell has perfected a cuisine that is as simple as it is delicious.
In 1998, after 8 years in development, a collection of her flavorful and healthful recipes was published, Regina's Vegetarian Table (Prima Publishing). Regina's love of cooking, international travel experiences, healthy lifestyle, creativity and curiosity contribute to her special ability to convey her ideas for accessible vegetarian cuisine, through her television series and book.
Her newest series (scheduled to air in Spring 2001) was recently produced at beautiful locations in Sedona, Arizona, and Melissa's was proud to have contributed an array of ingredients for several of the recipes. Regina's Vegetarian Table combines the preparation of simple recipes in her own kitchen with interesting side trips to show viewers where the wonderful food originates. She shares with her viewers some of the fabulous products that can be found in supermarkets and in farmer's markets.
With a goal of helping people enjoy the combined pleasures of good taste and good health, Regina Campbell's practical and realistic approach has certainly helped her reach this goal. She has made vegetarian cooking another one of life's simple pleasures.
