Early Years

Most popular for hosting Emmy Award-winning East Meets West with Ming Tsai and Ming’s Quest, on the Food Network; Ming Tsai plays a pivotal role in the emerging growth of East-West cuisine. From an eclectic background beginning with a mechanical engineering degree from Yale, a student of Cordon Bleu and a master’s degree in Hotel Administration and Hospitality Marketing from Cornell University, Tsai has a potpourri of tools that enhance the talent and influence of this amazing chef and entrepreneur.

Tsai began his culinary journey as a teenager in his family’s Chinese restaurant in Dayton, Ohio and didn’t venture back into the kitchen until 1992 as a sous chef at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in San Francisco. After serving as an executive chef for the Ginger Club and Santacafe he decided to move to Boston to establish his own restaurant, Blue Ginger.

Current Projects

In his first cookbook, Blue Ginger, Tsai shares his technique and philosophy of the Eastern and Western mergence of cuisines. With his second book, Simply Ming: Easy Techniques for East-Meets-West Meals, he presents a simpler approach of transforming fresh ingredients into a relatively simple meal in a matter of minutes.

With his unique experiences and diverse background, Tsai emerges as a true pioneer and brightly enhances America’s culinary melting pot.
