Marcy Goldman
Master Baker, Pastry Chef, Cookbook Author, Website Editor
If Marcy Goldman hadn't been forcefully separated from several unfulfilling jobs at the beginning of her career, we all may not have had the pleasure of enjoying her wonderful writing and baking. Deciding that she had to take her future into her own hands, she realized, long before many of the rest of us do, that with passion and tenacity you can earn a living doing things you love.
With training as a French pastry chef, practical experience with more bourgeois baked goods at assorted Montreal bakeries, and a complimentary talent for writing recipes and food-related articles, Marcy Goldman wrote her first book, A Treasury of Jewish Holiday Baking. Nominated for a Julia Child Cookbook Award, the book includes both a list of "Winning Recipes for the Bakery Challenged" (that would be me), as well as a plethora of techniques and recipes to challenge bakers at every level.
To promote the book, Marcy was invited onto a local radio show, where her knowledge, engaging personality, and a few baked goodies for the crew earned her a regular guest spot. The show's host and future collaborator Yvan Huneault encouraged her to create BetterBaking.com, offering his skills as designer/webmaster. Goldman's warm, friendly writing style, and guaranteed-successful-results guidance, along with Yvan's creative flair has earned BetterBaking.com wide acclaim, including praise from the New York Times for its design, no-fail recipes, and easy going essays. Updated every six weeks, the site also features seasonal cuisine, techniques, gadgets, food-related poetry, and most importantly a highly visible and easily accessible Marcy Goldman as soon as you log on.
Due to popular demand from site visitors for a "bricks and mortar" recipe collection, The Best of BetterBaking.com was published in 2002, filled with 175 of Marcy Goldman's favorite baking creations. In addition to her two already published books, Marcy Goldman has written articles for Fine Cooking, Cook's Illustrated, Food and Wine, Eating Well, and Bon Appetit, and her byline is often found in the Washington Post, the Montreal Gazette, and the Los Angeles Times.
Marcy Goldman was born to bake, and loves to share her passion via the sifted flour, creamed butter, melted chocolate, pureed fruit, and the written word of her recipes, articles, website, and books. A pastry chef, master baker, food journalist, and restaurant consultant, Marcy Goldman is also a loving mother to 3 active sons who would love to bake, cook, and eat with their talented mother even if she didn't supply their baseball teams with Big League Chocolate Chip Cookies. Marcy's passion and guidance make everyone want to get in the kitchen and bake something wonderful.
