Uses
Widely used in both Mexican and Spanish cooking and popular throughout the Southwest, Chorizo (pronounced chor-EE-zoh or chor-EE-soh) is a highly seasoned, coarsely ground sausage made from pork. Melissa’s Soyrizo is actually an all natural, pure vegetable product, yet incredibly similar to chorizo in many ways. A savory addition to many dishes including casseroles, vegetables, rice, soups, stews, enchiladas and eggs, Soyrizo provides a delicious meatless alternative with 60% less fat and no cholesterol. Made with healthy soy beans and no sodium nitrate. This item can be frozen.
Selection, Storage & Handling
Melissa’s Soyrizo is carefully packaged for excellent quality and should be refrigerated. To maintain freshness (after squeezing amount to cook from casing) twist tie unused portion and store in ziplock bag, return to refrigerator. Once opened, use within 7 days.
Unlike regular pork chorizo, Melissa’s Soyrizo is not “raw,” and can be prepared quickly over high heat. Use a non-stick skillet and spray with a non-fat cooking spray. Remove Soyrizo from casing, fry over high heat until reaching the desired browning and crispness, turning as needed. Additional serving suggestions appear on inside label.
