Uses:
From Florida’s official state tree, the Cabbage Palm, comes the edible inner portion of the stem known as Hearts of Palm. These slender, cream-colored stalks closely resemble white asparagus - minus the tips. Each stalk is delicately flavored, with a taste reminiscent of artichoke. Extremely perishable, Hearts of Palm are imported from Brazil and are available fresh only in Brazil, Florida and other areas where they are grown. Packed in water, Melissa’s Hearts of Palm are ready for use in main dishes, green salads, as a cold hors d’oeuvre served with a vinaigrette sauce, or hot with a plain or cheese béchamel sauce or hollandaise.
Selection, Storage & Handling:
Hearts of Palm from Melissa’s are hand packed for excellent quality quality. Refrigerate after opening.
Hearts of Palm from Melissa’s require no additional preparation and are delicious served in crudités wrapped with slices of Serrano ham or proscuitto.
