Uses:
As a member of the parsley family, Fennel is an unusual looking vegetable. Its base resembles celery, its leaves look like dill, and it smells and tastes like sweet licorice. Dating back as far as 1500 B.C., Fennel has long been enjoyed by the Italians, French, and Greeks. Melissa’s Fennel, available in a 12 ct., has a variety of uses and is often used fresh in salads.
Selection, Storage & Handling:
Choose fresh looking Fennel with good color and a clean, fresh scent. Avoid any brown spots or wilted stalks or leaves. Use soon after purchasing. If leaves do become wilted, an ice water bath will revive it. The preparation of Fennel is similar to that of celery. Cut off the stems and leaves, remove the knob-like core in the base, and remove any strings.
