Uses:
As a common Asian cooking ingredient, Melissa’s Waterchestnuts add texture and contrast to many dishes. Waterchestnuts, the underwater tubers of an aquatic plant that grows in shallow waters, resembles the more familiar Italian Chestnut. Their round shape and flattened ends produce a reed-like grass that would sprout if the chestnuts were left unharvested, similar to a bulb. Once peeled, the thin brown-black coats reveal a crisp, white flesh. Sliced Waterchestnuts can be boiled or steamed for use in soups, salads, stews, and stir-fries; or simply sautéed with tofu and other Asian vegetables. Melissa’s all-new 12/7.5 oz. tubs of Sliced Waterchestnuts lock in freshness and are shatter-resistant.
Selection, Storage & Handling:
Melissa’s Sliced Waterchestnuts are hand packed for excellent quality. Keep refrigerated. Shelf life for Sliced Waterchestnuts in tubs is 45 days.
Melissa’s Sliced Waterchestnuts should be left in their aqua pack or covered with cold water and a squeeze of lemon juice to keep them from discoloring until ready to use. Delicious boiled or steamed, they become slightly sweeter when cooked.
