Uses
Figs are a favorite that have withstood the test of time. They are one of the first fruits to be dried and stored by man and were known to have existed as early as 2000 B.C. There are hundreds of varieties of figs, and Melissa's brings you a few of the best. Melissa’s Royal Mediterranean figs have a soft, meaty flesh wrapped in a thin brown skin. Bite into this incomparably sweet fig and enjoy whole, including the crunchy, edible seeds. Enjoy Melissa’s Royal Mediterranean figs alone or in any meat dish. These sweet figs are a great complement to cooked meats.
Selection, Storage & Handling
Avoid hard, dry figs. Select fruit that is fresh smelling and fairly soft. Ripen at room temperature or lay a single layer on paper towels, cover with plastic and refrigerate for a few days. Figs may also be sealed in a plastic bag and frozen for up to six months.
