Uses
Melissa’s Ramps are a wild vegetable, very similar to wild leeks, and have a delicious onion-garlic flavor. They have bright green scallion-slim stalks with small white bulbs. Ramps have a wild, woodsy aroma with bold flavor. Ramps have a strong flavor of both onion and garlic, so don’t let their small size fool you, they have great flavor. The pungent flavor of ramps can be added to many dishes raw or cooked. The white bulb of the vegetable is the most flavorful, but the greens offer great flavor additions too. Try using Melissa’s Ramps as a substitute for scallions or leeks for a little more flavor. Ramps are also delicious with hearty vegetables like potatoes. Ramps mix well with rice, soup and stews. Sprinkle a potato and onion dish with freshly chopped ramp tops and serve for a fresh and tasty meal.
Selection, Storage & Handling
Store Melissa’s Ramps unwashed and wrapped tightly in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. To prevent their strong odor from affecting other foods, store in multiple bags. Ramps will stay fresh up to one week. Wash ramps before using.
