Uses
Once grown only as a home garden lemon and frequently found at farmers’ markets, the Organic Meyer Lemons have found its way into supermarkets across the county. Unlike its two popular counterparts (Eureka and Lisbon), the Organic Meyer Lemon is favored for its mild, juicy flesh. Although still too tart to eat out-of-hand, the Organic Meyer Lemon is useful in flavoring both savory and sweet dishes alike. From fish to fruit desserts, the Organic Meyer Lemon acts as a low calorie seasoner and when squeezed, is a good alternative to salad dressings and sauces. Organic Meyer Lemon juice can retard browning on cut avocados and apples, while vegetables like potatoes, cauliflower and turnips stay white when cooking in lemon juice and water.
Selection, Storage & Handling
Melissa’s Organic Meyer Lemons are hand selected for excellent quality. Skin should be smooth and brightly colored. Choose firm lemons that are heavy for size. Refrigerate in a plastic bag for up to 10 days or when the fruit shows signs of age.
