Uses
When ripe, the hexagonal "tiles" that cover the fruit begin to split away from each other to expose the delicious, creamy, banana-like pulp. Once the scales have fallen off, the flesh can be enjoyed with a spoon or fork. The inner fruit is composed of grayish-white packed kernels, which provide a delicately-flavored fine-textured fruit. The flesh has a banana-like texture and flavor, with a hint of apple pie and pineapple. Melissa's Monstera is as wonderfully fragrant as it is delicious. As it begins to ripen, a fragrant tropical aroma is infused into the air.
Selection & Storage
Melissa's Monstera should be stored at room temperature until ripe. When ripe the green scales will "pop" off of the fruit, leaving the delicious edible flesh still on the cob. The ripe flesh should be eaten soon after. Monstera will ripen slowly and often unevenly. For more even ripening, wrap in a plastic bag for up to one week.
