Uses
Grown throughout Central Mexico, these papayas are 3 to 5 pounds in weight and the shape of an elongated melon. Their skin is green when unripe but turns yellow to orange with a few freckles once they become mature. They are wonderfully soft and juicy, and have a salmon pink or red flesh that is very sweet with a slightly perfumed, fruity flavor. Cut them in half lengthwise, scoop out the small, shiny, gelatinous black seeds from the center and discard them. Delicious and irresistible with a sprinkle of fresh lemon or lime juice. All you need is a spoon to enjoy these tropical treats.
National Papaya Month (September 1-30) is the perfect opportunity to promote Melissa’s Maradol Papayas (pronounced Mare-uh-dawl puh-PIE-uh). Grown in Central Mexico, these 10-12 count Maradol Papayas are available in 36# net cartons with excellent shipping quality. Each Maradol Papaya is large, long and round with a green or yellow skin color. Weighing in at 3 to 5 lbs. apiece, Melissa’s Maradol Papayas are best enjoyed when soft to the touch. Cut lengthwise for best display. They will contain black seeds and a sweet, juicy salmon-red flesh.
Selection, Storage & Handling
