Uses
There are said to be some 1,500 varieties mangoes in India. Only a few have been cleared for export to the U.S. One, the Alphonso, is known as the King of Mangoes and is considered to be one of the best tasting mangoes in the world. These small yellow green gems of flavor have a creamy smooth texture, without the stringiness of most mangoes varieties. The fruit is a completely unique taste experience with a deep, almost caramelized, sweetness with hints of almond, coconut, vanilla, citrus and cinnamon. Treated by irradiation. Product of India.
Selection, Storage & Handling
Choose fruit that are firm, have unblemished skin and a fresh scent. Since mangoes are usually sold firm, leave at room temperature for several days to soften until they yield to gentle pressure and the skin wrinkles. Once ripe, refrigerate for up to a week.
