Uses:
Melissa's offers fava beans in both fresh and dry forms. Fava beans, originally from Egypt, grow in plump green pods. When the beans are very young and tender, they may be eaten whole. However, the Fava Beans’ are usually peeled to avoid any bitterness occasionally caused by the skin. The beans themselves are green and sometimes reddish brown or purplish in color and have an earthy flavor. Fava Beans are a wonderful addition to any meal and do not require soaking. Serve as a hot or cold appetizer, as a side dish sautéed in butter, or in soups.
Selection, Storage & Handling:
Melissa’s Fava Beans are hand-selected for excellent quality. Store individual packages of Dried Fava Beans in a cool dry place. Properly stored, Melissa’s Dried Fava Beans will stay in prime condition for 6 to 9 months. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator, or for longer storage, store in the freezer. Fresh Fava Beans should be kept in refrigeration for up to one week.
