Uses:
Melissa’s Dried Yellow Tomatoes start as fresh, vine-ripened Yellow Tomatoes grown in California. Harvested each year at the peak of ripeness, these tomatoes are washed, the stems are removed and they are cut in half. Once halved, the Yellow Tomatoes are moved down a wood-heated tunnel dryer. It takes approximately 24 hours to dry the tomatoes, taking 7 lbs. of fresh tomatoes make 1 lb. of dried. Many companies use sodium to preserve their dried tomatoes but Melissa’s believes customers prefer the natural tomato flavor, so Melissa’s Dried Yellow Tomatoes, in 12/3 oz. packages, are 100% natural with no added sodium. Like fresh tomatoes, these delicious dried tomatoes have an intense tomato flavor that lends a certain richness to your favorite tomato recipes. Blanch them and substitute them for fresh tomatoes in your favorite recipes, or simply enjoy them directly out of the bag.
Selection, Storage & Handling:
Melissa’s Dried Yellow Tomatoes are hand-selected for excellent quality. Store in a cool, dry place right in their bag or in an airtight container for up to one year.
Note: 1 oz. of Melissa’s reconstituted Dried Yellow Tomatoes equals 4 oz. of Melissa’s fresh tomatoes.
To reconstitute, blanch in boiling water for 2-5 minutes or soak for 30 minutes in lukewarm water, wine or consomme. If desired, reserve remaining liquid to add additional flavor to dishes.
