Uses:
Melissa’s Dried Red Tomatoes are made from fresh Roma Tomatoes. Harvested each year in January and February at the peak of ripeness, these Roma Tomatoes are then washed, the stems are removed, and they are cut in half. Once halved, the Roma Tomatoes are moved through a wood-heated tunnel dryer. It takes approximately 24 hours to dry the tomatoes, taking 7 lbs. of fresh to make 1 lb. of dried. Many companies use sodium to preserve dried tomatoes but Melissa’s believes customers prefer the natural tomato flavor, so Melissa’s Dried Tomatoes, in 12/3 oz. packages, are 100% natural with no added sodium. These delicious dried tomatoes have an intense flavor and a wonderfully chewy texture. Enjoy them right out of the bag or blanch them and substitute for fresh tomatoes in a favorite recipe.
Selection, Storage & Handling:
Melissa’s Dried Red Tomatoes are hand-selected for excellent quality. Store in a cool, dry place in their bag or an airtight container for up to one year.
Note: 1 ounce of Melissa’s reconstituted Dried Red Tomatoes equals 4 ounces of Melissa’s fresh tomatoes.
To reconstitute, blanch in boiling water for 2 - 5 minutes or soak 30 minutes in lukewarm water, wine or consomme. If desired, reserve liquid to add flavor to other dishes.
