Uses
Apricots originated in China. Cuttings of this golden fruit made their way across the Persian Empire to the Mediterranean where they flourished. It was the Spanish explorers who introduced the apricot to the New World, and specifically to California, where they were planted in the gardens of Spanish missions. Today, about 95 percent of the apricots grown in the U.S. come from California. Many different varieties are grown, each with special characteristics that deliver a variance in flavor and juiciness. They are one of the best natural sources of Vitamin A, which is essential for increasing immunity to colds and other illnesses, healthy skin and good vision (insufficient amounts can cause night blindness). In addition to eating them out of hand, apricots are also excellent for making tarts, jams, and savory sauces.
Melissa’s Organic Apricots are naturally fresh and juicy and are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. The Melissa's Organic label reads: “Melissa's Certified Organic Produce is free of artificial or synthetic fertilizers and full of unforgettable, great tasting flavor. Our farmers use traditional earth-friendly farming methods inspected by a nationally recognized agency to verify organic authenticity. Melissa's Organic Produce, a choice made closer to nature.” Organic Apricots are preferred for their succulent, juicy taste, as well as their contribution to personal health and the environment.
