Uses
Melissa’s Black Mission Figs are very rich in color. They are known for their deep purple color which turns black as they are dried. The interior is a pleasant pink hue and can be eaten raw or cooked. Black Mission Figs received their name after the mission father who planted the seed on his journey up the California coast. They are a true favorite that has withstood the test of time. Black Mission Figs are delicious by themselves, sliced on sandwiches, chopped and added to rice, stuffed with cheeses, wrapped with prosciutto or dipped in chocolate.
Selection, Storage & Handling
Avoid hard, dry figs. Select Black Mission Figs that are fresh smelling and fairly soft. Ripen at room temperature or lay a single layer on paper towels, cover with plastic and refrigerate a few days. Figs may also be sealed in a plastic bag and frozen for up to six months.
